Hanoi, April 14, 2023 - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation visited FPT University and FPT Software in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Thach That, Hanoi. The visit was significant not only for FPT Corporation but the education and IT industries as a whole, demonstrating the government's concern for Vietnam's high-tech workforce training.

The delegation attending the working session included: Mr. Nguyen Kim Son, Minister of Education and Training; Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat - Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung - Minister of Planning and Investment; Mr. Dao Ngoc Dung - Minister of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs; Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Tra - Minister of Home Affairs; Mr. Nguyen Sy Hiep - Deputy Chief of Government Office; Ms. Vu Thu Ha - Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee.

At FPT University, more than 1,000 FPT Edu students welcomed the delegation of the Prime Minister. He paid a lot of attention to the detailed curriculum of FPT University and the students' living and learning conditions. During the tour, Dr. Le Truong Tung, Chairman of FPT University, added specific information about the training programs. He also introduced the details of the campus architecture at the Hoa Lac CNC zone, which ensured good study conditions and enriched students' campus life. In response to the brief introduction, the Prime Minister suggested that FPT University may have more dormitories to meet the students' needs.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that FPT had pioneered digital transformation in Vietnam since 2016. As a result, along with other Vietnamese technology companies, FPT has made impressive progress and contributed to the country's rise as a bright spot in some areas of the IT industry.

The Corporation also focuses on training a high-quality labor force, especially in technology. In 2006, FPT established a new-generation university linked to businesses, with training close to practice, research, implementation, and application. It provides education services with different majors to enhance the quality of human resources for Vietnam's IT industry and digital transformation. FPT University students are well-organized and highly valued by businesses, with a job placement rate of 94.2%. The Prime Minister noted that it had been the right direction for FPT (and other Vietnamese technology companies afterward), resulting in highly commendable outcomes.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: "FPT Corporation has been going in the right direction and needs to continue to focus on developing Information Technology, Digital Technology, chips manufacturing, and workforce training. Through ups and downs, FPT's development path in ICT, software design, and semiconductor production is the most righteous, suitable way of working. It keeps abreast of the world's trends and our country's current situation and helps build an independent, autonomous, deeply integrated international economy. Your suggestions on the need to focus on resources are under the responsibility of the Government, Ministries, and relevant agencies. Secondly, establishing a center for synthesizing resources must be done indeed. Finally, policy changes should be made to attract more investment".

The Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, and related departments to propose plans to train high-quality human resources in the short and long-term, contributing to a mighty and prosperous Vietnam.

In the report to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation, FPT Corporation's Chairman, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, emphasized the importance of education and training to FPT. In 1999, FPT established a network of international programming training centers named FPT Aptech. In 2006, FPT established FPT University to teach Japanese to ICT engineers. In 2010, FPT began its vocational education. To date, 150,000 students have studied at all levels of FPT Education.

According to Mr. Truong Gia Binh, FPT is a leading player in the world's hottest fields due to its employees who graduated from Vietnamese universities, FPT University, and international universities as well. In 2022, FPT recorded one billion USD in revenue from overseas markets for the first time, equivalent to the export revenue of black pepper - Vietnam's vital agricultural export commodity. The Corporation witnessed high growth in all global markets and contributed 7,112 billion VND to the state budget.

As Mr. Truong Gia Binh proposed, it was the right time to create a new growth momentum for Vietnam's technology industry and attract foreign investment due to "the abundance of skilled labor with certificates and degrees in technology, including AI, Chip, IoT, Big Data, electric vehicles, and more. With a population of 100 million, Vietnam can become a world technology education and training center. Potentially, Vietnam can place it in the top 5 or 10 of the leading countries in terms of information technology, agriculture, and tourism industries", said the Chairman.

Mr. Truong Gia Binh suggested Vietnam should invest heavily in education and training to enhance the digital workforce, elevating Vietnam to a more glorious position internationally.

During the event, FPT Corporation also recalled the establishment of FPT Semiconductor Joint Stock Company in March 2022. It was a step toward realizing the dream of the semiconductor industry of many generations since 1979.

According to Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang - Director of FPT Semiconductor, the Company has designed and manufactured three types of power chips, having the first contract with an order of 25 million chips in 2024 and 2025. In addition, FPT is fulfilling a 2 million chips order for a Japanese partner." FPT expects to have seven new chip lines in 2023. At the beginning of 2024, FPT Semiconductor will continue to develop IoT platform chips for smart devices and IoT applications for agriculture, forestry, and aquaculture.

In the context of the strong development of the semiconductor industry, FPT proposes to get the best conditions to concentrate on developing tech talent in Vietnam, especially in semiconductor engineering. Besides, it is essential to establish a national semiconductor support center to establish long-term resources similar to the models in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. Furthermore, the government should call on global enterprises to invest in building factories and training personnel for this industry.
