Launching of the first microchip chip by FPT

FPT Semiconductor, a chip design and manufacturing company (under FPT Software, a member company of FPT Corporation), has officially launched the first line of IC chips used in Internet of Things (IoT) products for the medical field, realizing Vietnamese intelligence's dream of manufacturing semiconductor components.

FPT Semiconductor released its first integrated circuits (ICs), which were designed in Vietnam and manufactured in South Korea, in August 2022. These ICs will be used in Internet of Things (IoT) medical devices. By 2023, FPT Semiconductor plans to supply 25 million chips globally in seven types to meet diverse needs in telecommunications, IoT, automotive technology, energy, electronics, and others. Provided that Vietnam's semiconductor industry is estimated to exceed 6.16 billion USD by 2024 (according to a Technavio report), FPT Semiconductor aims to become a supplier of Vietnamese brand chips for domestic companies and corporations.

The enterprise's first customer and current strategic partner coordinate the distribution of FPT Semiconductor's chip products in the markets of Australia, Taiwan, and China. FPT Semiconductor intends to concentrate on deploying and supplying "Make in Vietnam" chips to domestic corporations in order to develop sustainably and contribute to completing the supply chain of manufacturing equipment for users in Vietnam between 2023 and 2025.

Many people are unaware that in 1979, we had a Vietnamese semiconductor factory known as the Z181 factory, which supplied a large number of semiconductor devices to the Eastern European market. With the criterion "Chip Make in Vietnam, Made by FPT," we aim to develop and commercialize chip products, as well as bring chip lines to domestic and international markets such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the United States, Europe, and China..."

Integrated semiconductor microchips are essential in devices, determining work performance and significantly influencing the cost of all electronic systems. In the context of businesses all over the world racing to digital transformation and developing the device ecosystem, the production of integrated semiconductor IC chips has become the backbone for the development of electronic systems and the technology industry.

According to Gartner, the global semiconductor IC industry will generate nearly US$600 billion in revenue by 2021. The number of organizations and enterprises in the semiconductor chip industry in Vietnam is primarily concentrated in technical universities or foreign enterprises investing in manufacturing plants.
