The inspirer 

Mr. Binh is the founder of FPT. Since time he defended his PhD Math thesis, he dreamed of building a company that would help take his country out of poverty. Nothing describes his desire better than the FPT vision, written on day one: “FPT strives to be a company that is guided by technological innovations, committed to the highest level of customer satisfaction, a contributor to national prosperity and a company that provides its employees with the most favorable work environment possible, enabling of them to reach their full potential in their professional careers as well as their spiritual lives.”

Binh’s ideas are always special. Some people may see these as crazy ideas but he is the one who sits down and realizes them. 

In the late 1990s, Binh pushed FPT into the Internet business when there were few computers in Vietnam. In 2001, he directed FPT Software to expand to Japan even though nobody in the company spoke Japanese. He predicted that FPT would have USD 1 billion in revenue by 2008 back in 2003 when revenue just over USD 100 million.

It is his passion, his dream and his unlimited energy that has made FPT what it is today.

The man who brings technology into life

Mr. Ngoc, Dr of Computer Sciences, is the CEO of FPT. He is also Binh’s schoolmate and friend. Ngoc followed Binh’s call, leaving a bright career and his professor position at Hanoi University of Technology. He wanted to apply in Vietnam what he studied in France. Leading the FPT Technology Service division, Ngoc started a “total technology solution” for the Vietnamese government and enterprises in 1990 when very few of them had even seen a computer. 

As a prudent corporate officer, Ngoc has brought best management practices of CMM, ISO, ISMS and the Balanced Score Card to FPT.

The leader of the information system field in FPT

Bao was the best programmer in Vietnam when he joined FPT with products that were sold abroad. When FPT realized the potential for domestic market demand, he took charge of the systems integration business.

As an example of devotion to customers and desire to build large systems, Bao has led FPT IS to become the key technology of FPT, implementing most of the important ICT infrastructure of Vietnam. Nowadays, FPT IS wants to reach further into the global market based on its extensive experience and solutions that have been implemented effectively in the domestic market.

The man who built the core Corporate Financial System

Tien is another scientist in FPT’s founder team. Extremely smart, the career envisioned by his parents was nuclear physicist but he became the first CFO of FPT. 

Tien understood that finance is like the spine of a company and must be managed by a system, not people. His internal financial system design is an example of best design: it is so simple that nothing is overseen and it can foresee all problems that may arise in a big corporation.

The man who touches the heart of employees

If Binh is the brain of FPT, Chau is its soul. Although he graduated with a degree in mathematic, he has the sense of a writer. He understands employees’ needs and he always empathizes with them when they have a problem. He built the relationship between FPT employees into a corporate social network that brings individuals together into a higher level of personal development. Chau also has his hands in all of FPT cultural products and events.

A former head of FPT in southern Vietnam, Chau now serves as Binh’s advisor on Corporate Culture.

The man who brings Vietnamese intelligence to the world

In 1999, when FPT decided to go global with software export as its strategic direction, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam led the team with only 13 staff members. Initially, FPT’s software outsourcing dream was not as expected. Facing high pressure from external and internal stakeholders, Nam and his core team remained determined to pursue the chosen direction. He found solutions in a book written about Uncle Ho with lessons of our legendary leader such as: “People are the root”, “People decide, leaders don’t”, “Marketing with well-known persons who are brand ambassadors”, “Using intelligence is suitable for small organizations,” etc. He has applied these lessons throughout his working life.

During the 10 years that he has led FPT Software, Nam has made significant changes to FPT. Businesses which had never heard of FPT began to treat FPT as a global partner. And most importantly, thousand of Vietnamese programmers go abroad to work for very big companies such as Hitachi, Sony, Panasonic and IBM. 

A Dream of Education Innovation 

Anyone can talk about education and anyone can talk passionately about education innovation but no one can inspire audience as Tung because of his vision, sincerity and more importantly his coherent plan for bringing innovation into practice.

Mr. Le Truong Tung became rector of FPT University when it was founded in 2006. His desire is for FPT University students to be able to compete globally for challenging jobs. Under his leadership, FPT University has become recognized as the most respectable Higher Education Institution of IT in Vietnam.

The Man Setting the Standards of Online Journalism

Holding a PhD in journalism, Thang had an important role in one of the largest newspapers in Vietnam before he joined FPT. By the year 2001, seeing the huge potential of the Internet, he left his job to join FPT to realize his dream of creating the largest Vietnamese online newspaper. VnExpress was established in that year.  

Just six years later that, VnExpress took the number 1 position in Vietnam and was one of the Top 100 websites in the world. This online newspaper became the de-facto standard of reliable news for millions of Vietnamese people around the world.

The woman who has raised up FPT’s position in terms of telecommunications and television services

Few people know that Vietnamese Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet and Swedish Prime Minister were in 1993 the second pair of PMs in the world to use email to exchange information. FPT Telecom was formed in 1997 to realize the vision of leaders of nations to connect the world.

Joining FPT Telecom in the beginning days, Ha has made many important contributions in the telecom sector of FPT. Since 2012 to March 2020, Ha has been the chairwoman of FPT Telecom. Under her leadership, FPT Telecom has been successfully challenging much bigger foes in the market such as Vietnam National Telecom and foreign owned companies by offering excellent services on a smart infrastructure.

Since March 2020, Mrs. Chu Thi Thanh Ha has been appointed to the position of Chairwoman of FPT Software.

The man putting FPT Software on the list of the world’s top 500 software companies

Joining FPT early, Tien was in charge of many important positions at FPT. He also played a significant role in helping FPT reached USD 1 billion in 2008 as the managing director of the FPT Distribution Company. However, Tien reached his full potential only after he was appointed President of FPT Software in 2012 to March 2020. His passion for leading the large army and broad international expertise helped him put FPT Software on the list of the world’s top 500 software companies and top 100 global outsourcing providers.

Since March 2020, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien has been appointed to the position of Chairman of FPT Telecom Joint Stock Company (FPT Telecom).

The man who always aims create an intelligent infrastructure​

Tuan was appointed CEO of the FPT Information System in 2014. A seasoned Project Manager, Software Engineer and a man full of energy, Tuan saw Smart Infrastructure not only as unlimited grow potential for his company but also the way for Vietnam to quickly become an economic power in the region.

Smart Transport will move people and goods quickly and timely. Smart Hospital will help reduce the painful shortage of doctors and hospital beds. Smart Education will put all young students on an equal footing. And Smart Government will better serve citizens.

The 10 most influential people on the Internet development in Vietnam

In 1997, Dr. Mai Liem Truc, who is considered to lay the first brick for the internet in Vietnam, fiercely fought to change the traditional view "Development together with management" into “The managerial capability must keep pace with development requirements”, putting an end to the prolonged period of the Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Corporation’s (VNPT) monopoly in the market in order to promote Internet development in Vietnam. Thanks to the changes in management perspective, FPT became the first non-core firm to be licensed as an internet service provider (ISP). It was creative and daring policies that helped FPT to gain a 30% market share just after one year without any official infrastructure.

15 years later, Dr. Mai Liem Truc stated that “FPT thanked me, but I also have to thank FPT for proving my policy is correct”. It was Mr. Truong Dinh Anh, FPT’s 26 –year-old developer at that time, who deserved his thanks. Under his leadership, FPT Telecom became the catalyst for stormy Internet development in Vietnam, enabling Vietnam to become one of the countries with the best Internet infrastructure in the world. In 2007, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Internet in Vietnam, Truong Dinh Anh was voted by The Information Technology Journalist's Club as one of the 10 most influential people on the Internet development in Vietnam.

Who built the foundation for the mobile phone distribution sector of FPT

In 1995, a Vietnamese female who graduated from Harvard came to convince FPT to be the distribution partner for Motorola mobile phone. And she persuaded FPT leaders to trust a very dynamic young FPTer to build the system. This Vietnamese woman is Ms. Dinh Thi Hoa, Chairman of Thien Ngan. And the young FPTer is Tran Quoc Hoai. Joining FPT in 1993 as a computer and telephone switchboard salesman, when the FPT BOM established the FPT Motorola cell phone Distribution Center, Hoai’s participation led to his being assigned leader of this Center in 1996. 

Thus the FPT mobile phone distribution field was born and Tran Quoc Hoai became one of the founders. 

The masses also need personalized service

In 2006, realizing the need for an off-line contact point for “digital citizens”, FPT several times attempted to build a chain of retail shops but they failed each time, until Diep took the lead in 2012.

Very determined, hardworking and constantly learning from the best, she managed to make the impossible happen. In less than 3 years, there were 163 electronics outlet of FPT Shops nationwide (as of December 2014) and the number is still increasing rapidly. Her secret to success is quite simple: attention to detail and determination.
